This policy explains what data TheBurgering Prep ("the app", "we") collects, why, and how it's handled. We built this app to help people prepare for the Dutch inburgering (civic integration) exam, and we try to collect only what's needed to make that work well.
When you create an account, we collect the email address and password you provide, via Firebase Authentication (a service provided by Google). Your password is never stored or visible to us — Firebase handles it securely. If you set a display name or profile photo, that's stored alongside your account.
Your practice progress — hearts, points, streaks, quiz answers, and vocabulary results — is stored locally on your device. This data may also sync to our cloud database (Firebase Firestore) so your progress isn't lost if you switch devices or reinstall the app.
The Spreken (speaking) practice feature uses your device's microphone to record short spoken answers, which are transcribed on-device using Apple's or Android's built-in speech recognition. Your voice recordings are not uploaded to our servers or stored after transcription — the audio is processed locally and discarded.
We show ads via Google AdMob to keep the app free, and offer an optional paid subscription (via RevenueCat and the App Store/Play Store) to remove them. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve and measure ads, per Google's own privacy practices. You can see and manage ad-related data choices in your device's privacy settings.
Subscription and purchase processing is handled by RevenueCat and Apple's App Store / Google's Play Store. We do not see or store your payment card details.
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Remove account, which deletes your authentication record and associated cloud progress data. This action is permanent.
TheBurgering Prep is intended for adults preparing for the Dutch civic integration exam and is not directed at children under 13.
If this policy changes meaningfully, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
